SALVATION OF THE VICUÑA

Vicuña fiber, because it is so fine, has been the cause of its disappearance over the centuries. When this fiber arrived in

Europe and they saw that it was much softer than cashmere, indiscriminate hunting got out of control, bringing the species to the brink of extinction.

Now, Vicuñas are guarded by Andean communities, who not only care for and preserve the species, but also keep alive an invaluable ancestral tradition.
