CH'ALLA RITUAL

This ritual is performed to express gratitude to the South American camelids for their meat, wool and fiber, and takes place during the carnival celebration.

Community members pour a small amount of alcohol or chicha – a traditional Andean drink – over the head of a camelid. Following this, they offer portions of meat, wool and other animal products while engaging in prayers, songs, and dances.
